Technology Options

Our current technology plan can be divided into 2 clear programs

  • Junior - bring your own iPad for Years 7-10

  • Senior - bring your own device (BYOD) for Senior students (i.e iPad or laptop).

The reason for this change in Senior years is that in Year 11 some courses are best advantaged when students have access to specialist software (mostly only available on a laptop or PC) and therefore students in these courses need more than the minimum standard option.

Outlines of the various levels of technology options are found on the Options page.

An iPad is a compulsory device for all students in Years 7 to 10. The junior curriculum has developed around the use of the iPad and particular apps to engage students in the learning process. Only in exceptional circumstances will any other device be acceptable. Any consideration of this nature must be discussed with the College principal in the first instance.

The most economical option for most senior students will be to continue with their own iPad from their junior years. As well as being light, durable (with suitable case) and quick to "boot up", this device is also a highly efficient personal organiser, word processor, research medium and creative tool.

A number of Year 11 students however, depending on Year 11 subject selection and personal preference, will want to have access to a PC or laptop at home OR have their own laptop for home and school.

By allowing the BYOD for senior years, parents have the opportunity to decide which device is most suitable for their child for their chosen pattern of study. So before choosing an option, students may be guided by what is advantageous to meet their technology needs for future studies.

Refer to the Senior subject technology levels outlined on the Options page.
